Theodore W. “Bill” Uhlrich, JR. 87 of Twin Falls, Idaho passed away on December 31, 2022 with family by his side. He was born on July 25, 1935 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Theodore W. And Sarah F. Uhlrich.
Bill graduated from Leavenworth Senior High school in June 1953. After high school, he attended the University of Kansas and graduated in June 1958 with a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. He would later go on to graduate from the University of Kansas in June 1963 with a masters in Mechanical Engineering, while serving with the US Army.
Bill served 21 years in the US Army as an officer and had 3 years Reserve duty. He served his first two years as a Regular Army Officer in the Field Artillery, and the remainder of his time in the Army Ordnance Corps in Project Management, developing and fielding equipment, Material and Maintenance Management, and as Commander of Direct and general Support Maintenance Units supporting troops in the field. He served in various assignments in Germany, Korea, Vietnam, and the United States, including the Maintenance Officer, sixth US Army for two years.
After retiring from the US Army in November 1979, as a Lieutenant Colonel, he worked as a Senior Staff Engineer for Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space company for 19 years and retired in August 1998.
Bill and his wife, Carolyn Mills, were married 63 wonderful years ago. Bill met Carolyn at El Paso, Texas, in 1958, while attending US Army Surface to Air Guided Missile School at Ft. Bliss, Texas. They were married at Giessen, Germany, on October 10, 1959, while Bill was on his first assignment with B battery, 3rd Gun Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 23 Direct Support group. B battery had two huge, 280 mm atomic guns, 85 feet long and weighed 85 tons. As First Lieutenant, Bill commanded one of the two gun platoons.
Carolyn and Bill had four children: William Douglas, who died two days after birth, their daughter; Teri Kathryn And her husband, Rob List live in Jerome, Idaho. daughter; Jodie Stai in Antioch, California, and their son; Jeff Uhlrich, and his wife, Rebecca in Quitman, Georgia.
Carolyn and Bill moved to Brentwood California in September 1998. Bill was a lay minister at the Golden Hills Community Church, leading Bible studies, coordinating and serving in the Prayer Room and helping to administer the Discovery Series Program. Bill and Carolyn then moved to Twin Falls, Idaho in January of 2021
Bill is survived by his loving wife; Carolyn Uhlrich, 3 children; Teri List, Jodie Stai and Jeff Uhlrich, 8 grandchildren; Sarah, Bobby, Nicholas, Mikayla, Hunter, Madison, Travis and Chris, and 8 great grandchildren; Kaylee, Kameryn. Jacob, Emberlynn, Theodore (Teddy), Amaya, Audrey and Octavia, who all live locally.
Bill is preceded in death by; both his parents, son; William Douglas, and 2 sisters ,Edna Buselt and Betty Lou Lindsay
A funeral service for Bill is scheduled on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Snake River Canyon National Cemetery
