Obituary for Karryn Alta Hunter

Karryn Alta Hunter slipped quietly and peacefully from this life on May 4, 2023. By her side were her son Kris and daughter-in-law Mary and she was, no doubt, led to the other side of the veil by her sweetheart Les and met by her mother, who she had not seen in 62 years.

Karryn was born July 30, 1939 to Adrian and Alta Neibaur in Newdale, Idaho. Her twin brother Kent was born only minutes after her. Karryn grew up on their family’s farm in Newdale alongside her 6 siblings. Karryn loved each of her siblings dearly and was always eager to recount tales of their childhood. She attended school in Tetonia and Sugar City. Following high school, she attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. During her education she earned degrees in Art, Speech & Drama, English and Special Education.

During college she met her sweetheart Les Hunter. They were sealed for eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on June 1, 1962. Into this marriage came 5 children – Julianne, Brian Leslie, Eric Ben, David Clyde, and Kristopher Adrian. Karryn considered herself blessed to have these children and loved them each with all that she had, until the very end.

Les and Karryn lived many different places before they called Twin Falls home. Karryn was an educator for 38 years, with her final 24 years in the Twin Falls School District. She retired in 2004, but returned briefly in 2015 to help in Lincoln Elementary School’s Special Education classroom. Karryn loved teaching. She was an effective and confident teacher and was well-loved and well-respected by those she taught and those who had the privilege of teaching with her.

Karryn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved her Savior – her faith was a central part of her life. She enjoyed serving anywhere she could -from being a Relief Society president to a nursery leader. Even when she was completely homebound, her calling was to send birthday cards to each of the sisters in the ward and she did it as she did everything, with great love and commitment. Karryn had a beautiful talent for writing and wrote many poems, stories and plays during her life.

Karryn spent the final years of her life in Kris and Mary’s home, where she was loved and adored every day by 6 of her grandchildren, and where the loss of her presence is felt deeply. She will be sorely missed by her family.
Karryn was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Alta Neibaur; her brothers, Clyde and Gleason Neibaur; her sisters, Rose Barney, Iris Hunter, and Ruth Williams, and her sweetheart, Les. She is survived by her twin brother Kent (Anne) Neibaur and her children, Julianne (Brian) Gardner, Brian Hunter, Eric (Leah) Hunter, David (Kellyn) Hunter, and Kristopher (Mary) Hunter, along with 19 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing for Karryn will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Chapel 2466 Addison Ave E. in Twin Falls. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Hankins Chapel, 723 Hankins Rd. N. in Twin Falls by Bishop Jerry Naylor of the Pillar Falls Ward. There will also be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Karryn’s family would like to thank Idaho Home Health & Hospice for the kind and gentle care they gave to their mother, especially Brian, who showed up in the rain after Karryn had passed, and Sam, whose mother-in-law was one of Karryn’s aides during her teaching career, showing just how small the world is and how far the reach of an educator can go.
