Obituary for Donna Cox Straubhaar Aase

Donna Cox Straubhaar Aase
November 2, 1934 – December 18, 2023

Our precious wife, amazing mother, loving grandmother and loyal friend, Donna Cox Straubhaar Aase, was welcomed into the arms of our loving Savior on December 18, 2023, surrounded by family, at the age of 89.

Donna was the first born to Dovavon Elijah Cox and Bessie Clare Bloxham in Rupert, Idaho. Donna was also the seventh child born to her mother Bessie Cox. Donna had five half-sisters, Judy, Edith, Jean, Cleo, and Bonnie; and one half-brother Sunny; and sister Joyce (Robert) Hirsch, whom all proceeded her in death. Donna attended grade school at Lincoln Elementary School in Rupert, Idaho, and Rupert High School.

Donna met Ernest Lee Straubhaar at a church dance. Ernest saw two or three young ladies at the dance and told his friend he was going to marry that young lady one day. They married in Heyburn, Idaho on November 26, 1952. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.

During their marriage they welcomed four children, Terry, Glen, Steven, and Tori. Donna’s enduring legacy are the principles she left behind that radiate in the hearts of her children. They will be eternally grateful for this.
Donna and Ernie enjoyed many camping trips with their children, fishing, and hunting. One favorite memory is when they were in Ketchum, Idaho with sister Joyce and her husband, Robert Hirsch. Ernie and Uncle Bob left to go get hamburgers and drinks. On the way back, they found they were unable to get through the large crowd. That is when Ernie and Uncle Bob decided to enter themselves into the parade. Donna and Joyce were so embarrassed. Donna’s famous saying was “Oh! Good grief!”

Donna had many talents. She was a fabulous seamstress, making sure every stitch was perfect. She made most of her own clothing, outfits for her children and Halloween costumes for the grandkids.

Donna also did very good in school, making good grades. She sang in the high school choir and also in the church choir. Donna was also a talented pianist and organist. Donna loved to paint. Among those pictures were beautiful mountain sceneries, that are proudly hung in her home and her children’s homes. Donna also later attended college and earned her LPN certification.

She also had several church callings. One being in the presidency of the Relief Society. She was a teacher in the youth program, where many of her classes loved and admired her.

After Ernie passed away in 1997, she met and married Jan Kristian Aase, on June 12, 1998. Kris was a loving husband and took wonderful care of Donna until her passing. At that time Donna gained four stepchildren, Erik (Lisa) Aase, Arvid (Joane) Aase, Jared and Jason (Emily) Aase. Donna’s family will forever be grateful to them for the love and compassion they showed our mother, during her last few years on this earth.
This angel is survived by her loving husband, Kristian; her four children, Terry (Laurie) Straubhaar, Glen (Connie) Straubhaar, Steven Straubhaar, and Tori (Jeff) Kerbs; her stepchildren; eleven grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; Ernie; sister Joyce; five half-sisters; one half-brother; grand daughter Melanie Straubhaar; and great granddaughter Hope Gilbert.

A funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, December 22, 2023, at White-Reynolds Funeral Chapel 2466 Addison Ave E. in Twin Falls. Family will receive friends at 12:30 prior to the service. Dedication of the grave will follow the service at Paul Cemetery at 2:45 pm. A luncheon will follow at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Emerson Ward 127 S 950 W. Paul, Idaho.
