Obituary

Dennis LaVern Kulhanek

Born in Wendell, Idaho, on July 30, 1944, Dennis LaVern Kulhanek hit the ground running and never stopped until April 22, 2021, when he “won” his battle with pancreatic cancer. Family members, his many friends, and those he did business with over the years know that Dennis faced the battle head on!

Born to Verne Kulhanek and Artella (Tilly) Small, Dennis was always proud of his four brothers and three sisters, and he bragged about them often.
Darrell Kulhanek (Joy) – Elma, Washington
Rick Kulhanek – Hansen, Idaho
Terry Kulhanek – Twin Falls, Idaho
Sandy Miller (Doug) – Boise, Idaho
Tom Rosen (Cindy) ¬– Boise, Idaho
Becky Johansen – Idaho City, Idaho
Patty Bekkedahl (Bruce) – Clear Lake, California

Married October 18, 1961, to Maxine (Hite) Kulhanek, their lives fell just six months short of 60 years together. They were blessed with two children, Andrea Simanson (Ty) of Pullman, Washington, and Darren Kulhanek (Tera) of Hermiston, Oregon.

Grandchildren: Kara (Yogi) Chapman (Paul) Moscow, Idaho; Jamie Simanson (Katie) Plymouth, New Hampshire; Andrew Simanson, Pullman Washington; Dakota Kulhanek, Moses Lake, Washington; Koltyn Kulhanek, Hermiston, Washington; and Kortnie Kulhanek, Hermiston, Washington.

He leaves behind his wife, siblings, children, and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A recent phrase Dennis often shared:
If I don’t see you soon, I’ll see you there.

The Eagle, by Terry Gripp
He’ll forever be an eagle in my eyes;
In my mind he soared high in the sky.
Yet, he was just a mortal man;
he did things few would understand.
He wasn’t always right, but he was never wrong;
in his world, only a few belonged.
I was lucky to know him when I did;
I was twenty-one and just a kid.
He took me under his wing and showed me right from wrong;
doing the job right didn’t take him long.
He taught me the value of a true friend;
we would have carried each other through hell and back again.
I’ll miss you forever my dear friend;
I’ll see you in heaven at my days’ end.
